Circus of Navacelles

Circus of Navacelles

The Cirque de Navacelles is a natural cirque in the Occitanie region in the South of France in the southern part of the Grands Causses.

It is formed by a meander intersected by the Vis river in impressive gorges between the Larzac causse to the south (Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, Hérault) and the Blandas causse to the north (Blandas, Gard). The hamlet of Navacelles, shared between the two municipalities and the two departments, is located near the intersection point of the meander marked by a waterfall.

The Navacelles cirque has been classified since 1943. The current perimeter of the classified site was defined by decree of 1 . The mixed union of the Grand Site de Navacelles, whose perimeter includes the Navacelles cirque, is a member of the Network of large sites of France and has obtained the labelTHE .
